How to write release notes people read
- Lead with what the user can now do, not what you changed: “Export your ideas to CSV”, not “Added CSV endpoint”.
- One line per change. If it needs a paragraph, link to a guide.
- Put the change people asked for most first.
- Group by New, Improved and Fixed so readers can skim.
- Ship notes on a regular rhythm, even small ones. A changelog that’s updated often shows the product is alive.
Tell the people who asked
Release notes reach everyone, but the people who asked for a feature deserve a direct “it’s live”. It’s the moment a customer learns their feedback mattered.
UserNote keeps every request and its votes in one list, with a public roadmap, so you know who was waiting for each change.
